📄 Donor Terms and Conditions

Gifts to Bold.org are made to the Bold Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, and are governed by the Donor Terms and Conditions. The key points:

  • Gifts and receipts: gifts can be unrestricted or designated to a scholarship or fund. You'll receive an emailed receipt after each donation is processed. The Foundation may decline a gift that is too restrictive or outside its mission.

  • Scholarship funds: the Foundation works with you to design the scholarship and may ask you to sign a written agreement covering how the funds are managed and spent.

  • Selection: scholarships must be awarded on an objective, non-discriminatory basis. You can take part in review and recommend winners, but the Foundation makes the final selection. Foundation officers, substantial contributors, selection committee members, and their family members can't receive an award.

  • Use of funds: winners may use awards for tuition, fees, required course materials, and repayment of student loans taken for those purposes. Awards can't require the winner to provide services in return.

  • Changed circumstances: if you're no longer able to take part, the Foundation keeps awarding on the regular schedule. If a purpose becomes impracticable, it redirects the funds as close to your intent as possible, for example by widening eligibility.

  • Winner announcements: winners are announced online and to all applicants on the agreed date. If you'd like to congratulate a winner, the Foundation can pass your contact details to them, and they can choose to get in touch.

Your primary donation always goes 100% to the scholarship or fund you choose. See Does Bold.org Charge Donation Fees?

📘 Terms of Use

Using the bold.org website and your donor dashboard is covered by the general Terms of Use. The Donor Terms and Conditions apply on top of these for anything to do with your gifts and scholarships.

🔒 Privacy Policy

The Privacy Policy explains what Bold.org collects from donors (name, phone, email, city and state), how it's used, and who it's shared with. Payment details go directly to the payment processor. Bold.org never handles them itself.

🙅 Do Not Share My Personal Information

In limited circumstances, certain donor information may be shared as needed for grant or donation reporting. If you would like to opt out of the sharing of your personal information, submit a Privacy Rights Request and choose Opt-Out of Selling and Sharing. The same form lets you request a copy of your data, correct it, or delete it. Select "Current or Former Donor" when asked who you are. You'll receive an email confirming the request.

🎓 Applicant information you review

When you review applications, you see student profiles and essays that students agreed to share with scholarship providers under the Privacy Policy. Please use it only for reviewing and selecting winners. For more on what students share and what stays private, see Inside the Bold Student Experience.
